A non-govenmental organisation, Bina , has urged the president of Para-Athletics Federation of Nigeria and the chairman of Enugu state Para-Athletics Association, to incorporate physically challenged individuals in their activities as a way of providing friendly environment for then in the society.

The president and founder of Bina , Lady Ifeoma Atuegwu, made the call at the occasion of award of doctorate degree in Plant Pathology to Hon. Chikwendu Amobi, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, as part of activities marking the 13th convocation of the institution.

Lady Atuegwu noted that attention should be given to physically challenged and needs.

intellectual and developmental disabilities are among our nation’s most vulnerable citizens. Their needs for health care, education, spirit of sportsmanship and social services should be recognised as worthy government investments.

“I, therefore, call upon Dr. Amobi to use his good office to assist these , who are out there stigmatised due to their physical disabilities. Give them hope and let them believe that they are still part of us,” he added.

Also speaking to Orient Daily, Amobi assured that the federal government would always assist with disabilities, and promised to also use his position to improve lives.

Meanwhile, the programme coordinator, Bina Foundation, Mrs Chikwendu; who is also the wife of the awarded, expressed profound gratitude to God for making a dream that started 7 years ago come through.

She equally called on families that have such individuals needs to desist from hiding them and bring them to Bina Foundation where they would be transformed to positive individuals in the society.
