The judge, Alhaji Inuwa Maiwada, granted bail to Aminu in the sum of N110,000, with a surety in like sum and adjourned the case until May 5 for hearing.
Aminu, whose address was not provided, had denied committing the offence.
The prosecutor, Mrs Ukagha Ijeoma, told the court that the matter was reported by one John Ameh, of Ede Plaza, Abuja at the Utako Police Station, Abuja, on Jan. 14.
Ijeoma said that on the same date, Aminu appealed to the complainant to offer him a ride from Area 1 to Berger which Ameh obliged. Ijeoma said that before Berger junction, Aminu allegedly stole the complainant’s cell phone, valued at N104, 000.
She told the court that during police investigation, Aminu was asked to return the phone, instead Aminu allegedly demanded for N10, 000 before he would return the phone.
The prosecutor said that Aminu sent his bank account details to the complainant for the N10,000, adding that he was later arrested by the police. She said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
