The Executive Secretary, Anambra state Task Force on Fake/ Counterfeit/Adulterated Drugs and Allied Products, Mr. Chibuzor Nwokeji, has accused multi-millionaire businessmen in Onitsha and other parts of the state of being responsible for the production and importation of fake drugs.
Nwokeji said he has been inviting and counseling them on the dangers inherent in such illicit drugs and the need to stop them.
According to him, the crusade against fake drug touched many of the fake drug dealers, who quickly amended their ways and stopped importation and distribution of fake drugs.
Nwokeji told our correspondent that the power of converting fake drug dealers to change their evil ways was a grace from God.
According to him, “I appealed to the people’s conscience. I gave them invitation to come to a private place where I preached on the dangers of importing and dealing on killer drugs which affect citizens’ health and longevity. I talked to them as one would to a brother, to abandon the reckless way of acquiring wealth through fake drugs”.
He noted that anybody, who deals in fake and adulterated drug, is a murderer as, according to him, fake drugs and other substances were capable of worsening person’s health situations and sending a victim to an early grave.
According to him, many of the fake drug dealers have repented. “Some culprits have confessed that they indulge in such practice to make quick money in order to belong to the affluence in the society. Some of the culprits apologised and instantly witnessed their wares destroyed in their presence.”
