Residents of Rumueperikom community in Obio/ area of Rivers state are still in shock following alleged murder of a 32-year-old pregnant lady by her boyfriend in the area last week­end. Orient Weekend gathered that a middle aged , Prince­will Owabiyo, was in the early hours of Wednesday arrested by police operatives for allegedly kill­ing his pregnant identi­fied as Better ‘Wovez’ Nwabueze and secretly burying her inside his one- apartment around Wimpy Junction, by Ikwerre Road in Port Harcourt.

The suspect, 34, who was whisked away to the State Crimi­nal Investigative and Intelligence Department (SCIID) was report­edly given away by his friends who got wind of the incident and tipped the police off.
Owabiyo, popularly known as J-Boy, reportedly spilled the beans about his action two days earlier when he told some of his friends what he had done and begging them to keep sealed lips on it. However, instead of preserv­ing the secret, they alerted the police who moved in and arrested him.

Soon after he was apprehend­ed by police and whisked away, residents gathered at the scene of the incident, and were seen discussing Owabiyo’s dastardly act in groups.

Meanwhile, the Rivers police command police public relations officer, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, disclosed that preliminary investi­gations revealed that both lovers had a quarrel on November 17, 2018 and that this led to a fight. According to him, the lady report­edly died during the brawl and the suspect tried to conceal the crime by burying the victim inside his apartment.

According to Omo­ni, the suspect allegedly used floor tiles in the sitting to conceal the felony and fled the house after burying the victim in the living . He further disclosed that the suspect had confessed to the police and led detectives to the house on Ikwerre Road in Obio/ area, where the body was exhumed.

The spokesman said the body was exhumed on Thursday and had been preserved at the mortuary. He stated that the relations of the dead lady wanted to vent their anger on the suspect, but that he was saved by the police. Omoni said that investigation into the murder had commenced.

Orient Weekend learnt that youths of the community are already up in arms, threaten­ing to see the end of the matter. The Rumuepirikom community youth leader, Nyemanu Onuoha, described the incident as unfor­tunate and promised that the youths would ensure that justice takes its course.
