Emen George, 20, was on Thursday sentenced to one month imprisonment by an Ogudu magistrates’ court, Lagos, for playing Betnaija game of N50, 000 on credit without any means of payment.
The Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, convicted George on a charge of causing breach of the peace.
Kubeinje held that the prosecutor proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.
“The accused is hereby sentenced to one month imprisonment or a fine of N10, 000,’’ she said.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Jan. 28 played a game of N50, 000 at a Betnaija centre on Barbinton Street, Mile 12, Ketu, Lagos, but refused to pay.
He said that when he was searched, it was discovered that the accused had no money on him.
The offence contravened Section 168 of the criminal law of Lagos state, 2015.
The prosecution presented two witnesses to prove its case. (NAN)
