The arrests were made following a complaint by 30 year old Rita Madubuonu who had reported that she was contacted by some unknown persons in 2013 who told her that her 21 year old missing brother, Chinedu Anthony Madubuonu who had been missing was held prisoner in Owerri and that she should make some payments which amounted to N1.4 million into two account numbers she was given to secure his release.
Making the disclosure, the police public relations officers named the suspects as “Obierika Samuel Tochukwu ‘m’ aged 40 years of Ezi_ Agulu village Aguleri; Godstime Okhae ‘m’ aged 26 years of magazine Avenue GRA Onitsha; Chinedu Joseph Madufor ‘m’ aged 20years of No. 2 New Nkisi Magazine junction GRA Onitsha and Celestine Chukwuemeka ‘m’ aged 35yrs of No.27 Idigo Rd Aguleri.”
He said that the victim involved, Chinedu is still missing and that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigations.
“Suspects have defrauded her of the sum of One million and four hundred thousand naira (#1.400,000) between 2013 and 2016 which she allegedly deposited into their Bank account in various instalments,” the police spokesman’s statement read in part.
