It is a moment of despair and confusion for the family of Mr. and Mrs. Onyedika Anthony, indigenes of Ugbawka, Nkanu East local government area of Enugu state. The family’s hope of seeing their two children again now hangs in the balance following the abduction of the duo by a family friend.
They are now relying on God’s intervention and the police for the rescue of the children, who they believe are still alive somewhere.
Orient Weekend reports that four-year-old Chisom and two-year-old Chidindu have gone missing for over 10 days now.
They were whisked away from their family house at Akwuke, Enugu South local government area of Enugu state, on Monday October 8, 2018 by a lady, identified as Ifeoma when their mother went behind their compound to ease herself.
A source hinted that though Ifeoma had always been around the family, nobody knew she had sinister intentions until she struck on the ill-fated day. Mrs. Anthony, who was surrounded by sympathisers, told our correspondent that the lady, Ifeoma, had first asked that the children should follow her to the church, a request she turned down.
According to her, “that evening, Ifeoma came to my compound and told me to prepare my children so that she would take them to church for prayers. “I said ‘no’, that I will not allow the children to go with her. But when I left her and the children to go and urinate at the back of our house, I returned and met only my eight month old baby. Ifeoma and the children were nowhere to be found.
“I asked neighbours if they saw the lady and my children and they said they saw them; they showed me the route they took. I searched everywhere to no avail.
“Since that day, all our efforts have been fruitless,” adding that they had since reported the incident to the police.
She further disclosed that “I got to know Ifeoma through my husband, who had known her way back in Abuja. She is from Opi in Nsukka local government area of Enugu state.
“She came down to Enugu about a month ago and had lived with a boyfriend within this neighbourhood. But we discovered that the guy in question disappeared into thin air a day before our children were taken away. He had earlier claimed that he was going for outside work, as a tiler.
“When their apartment was broken into, it was discovered that they had removed all important items in the house.”
Also speaking, Mr. Onyedika Anthony, father of the missing children said that every effort made to track them had not yielded any fruit.
He added that “some pastors we consulted assured us that the children are alive, that they might return someday. We are appealing to all concerned authorities to help us, we are so devastated.”
However, when contacted, Enugu police public relations officer, PPRO, SP Ebere Amaraizu said that he was not aware of the incident as it had not been reported at the police headquarters.
