The governing council of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) has approved the demotion of 33 professors to lower ranks. 17 professors were demoted to the rank of associate professors, while 8 were to revert to position of senior lectures.
Similarly, 8 associate professors were demoted to the rank of senior lecturers, while 17 senior lecturers were brought downtown to position of lecturer 1.
The Council gave the approval at its 21st emergency meeting held form Monday, 13th to Thursday, 16th May, 2019.
The registrar and secretary to the council, Mrs Jacinta Ogwo-Agu, wrote the affected officers on Monday, 20th May, 2019, conveying the Council’s decision.
Among those demoted from professors to associate professors are Ojemba Gabriel Ajibo, Odoh Mcchester Onyemaechi, Simeon Okpoto Eze, Okwudili Beede Emerole, Oborrkhale Lawrence, Cosmos Chikezie Ogbu and Ezeja Maxwell Ikechukwu. Others are Yusuf Ndukaku Omeh, Vincent C. Eze, Lawrence Okwudili Eya, Amadi Ugochukwu Polycarp, Georgina Obinne Ugwuanyi and Kayode Adekunle.
Those demoted from professor to senior lecturers are Asor Vincent Ele, Ogwo Patrick Agwu, Gideon Ahamefule Emereole, Joy Chinwe Obunadike, Melody Ndidi Modebelu and Alphonsus Odo Ovute.
When contacted, the public relations officer of the university, Adanma Nwachukwu, confirmed the decision of the Council, but said that she will provide details at a later date.
