Commissioner for Works, Mr. Marcel Ifejiofor, said the action was aimed at instilling discipline in the workers. He wondered why the staff of the ministry would not be punctual to work despite government’s commitment to their welfare.
He said, “I will not tolerate the culture of late coming among civil servants in this ministry. I see no reason why our staff will not be punctual to work since Governor Willie Obiano has made their welfare a priority to his administration.
“The governor ensures prompt payment of salaries which has earned him the accolade of ‘Alert Governor’.”
The commissioner directed the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Emeka Ohuoha, a lawyer, to ensure that appropriate punishments were meted out to the culprits. He noted that the measure would serve as deterrent to others, irrespective of their positions in the ministry.
“Status does not matter, what a matter is doing the right thing at the right time,’’ he stressed.
