60, 000 unclaimed property ownership certificates unsettles Delta govt

60, 000 unclaimed property ownership certificates unsettles Delta govt - C of O; Delta State

By Nosa Akenzua, Asaba

No fewer than 60, 000 uncollected Certificates of Occupancy (C of O), has continued to unsettle the Delta state government.

The State Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Mr. Chika Ossai, who confirmed this to our reporter on Tuesday in Asaba, said: “about 60, 000 uncollected Certificates of Land Occupancy (C of O) are lying in office. It is painful that many of the owners have not completed payments. They pay in installment and, often times, when we call them, they have changed their numbers. The state government is not comfortable with the present situation.”

The commissioner said that since the inception of Okowa-led administration, the “Fast Track 90”, an organ of the Ministry of Land and Survey, had experienced enhanced revenue, adding that the state government, in line with the existing innovation, established an ICT Centre for migration of all existing applications for certificates of occupancy to new electronic platform and the digitisation of existing (C of O), among others.
