“Marriage is a school of learning without graduation”- Idahosa - Idahosa; 26 years of marriage

Bishop Isaac and Christy Idahosa of Illumination Assembly, God First Ministry recently celebrated 26 years of marriage at the church premises, Lekki Light centre, Ajah Lagos.  In an interview with Emmanuel Clement of Orient Daily, Idahosa shares his thoughts on what makes for a successful marriage

26 years of marriage, would you say God has done enough?

God has been faithful in all; He has done what no man can do. Giving us a life to live is enough reason to thank and celebrate Him. As a matter of fact, we cannot complain because Him alone is involved, taking charge of the marriage, making things better, sweeter by the day. As we all know “Marriage is a school of learning without Graduation”. We keep going receiving lectures, praying to go up to pass our exams. We are running this race by His Grace and not by our own effort, God has been faithful, no complain. Today is good, Tomorrow is looking better and Everyday is a plus.

What is your advice to young couples?

They should get closer to those that are married and not unmarried and as well get closer to a mentor who has been married for years to learn from their experience because when you fail to learn by example, you will become an example yourself. I wouldn’t say that was no challenges or stormy period. We actually overcome our challenges and stormy period by the direction of the Holy Spirit and not by our own strength and power. So whenever challenges comes, it wants to make better things out of us and want us to stop behaving like an eagle but an eagle because the character of a mother eagle is in eaglet, but has to pass through tough times, rejection, abandonment to be able to make its wing stronger and better to soar. Love is command and it must grow and graduates before it becomes a decision, and until love becomes a decision, no hope can be kept. Experience does not expire. God has given us two lovely children in the course of this marriage, Christabel and Apostle Idahosa. We want to appreciate everyone that came and those that couldn’t meet up. We had the likes of Segun Arinze, Chinedu Ikezie (Aki), Timi Dakolo, Praise Machine and Mojisola Ajibola Okonkwo among others.
