Following of Dr. Francisca Nwafulugo, as the first female substantive rector of Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra state, the chapter chairman of the Academic Staff of Polytechnics (), Comrade Signor Igbokwe, has advised the new rector to be -.

Igbokwe, in a chat with Orient Education, said the expectation of was high on the new leadership, and urged the rector to create enabling environment that would enable her work maximally.

He urged her to shun and avoid sycophants who were already positioned to run others down, while reiterating the union’s unalloyed support to ensure that she enjoyed a successful reign.

“A woman rector is good to have at this time in the polytechnic to unite all divides. Her coming will bring more progress and success”, he stated.

Also, ASUP chairman of the institution, Comrade Godson Okeoma, urged the new rector to bring in innovations, adhere to due process and restore the lost glory of the polytechnic.

He urged her to set machinery in motion to ensure successful accreditation of abandoned programmes as well as introducing new courses and restoration of quality academics that the institution was known for.

“I expect to see the evidence that women can equally do it and even better. I expect a record that will outweigh what Dr. Njoku did at Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Owerri. I expect good tidings instead of stories of woes at the end of her tenure”, he expressed.

spokesman of the ASUP, Comrade Kossy Ebunilo, said the polytechnic community was quite optimistic that the new rector would exceed other rectors in performance. He noted that her keen insight in the polytechnic system would be an advantage.

“Based on her strong roots in the polytechnic system, the sky is her limit. Our confidence in her ability to deliver in all fronts is, therefore, not misplaced”, he said.

On his part, the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANIP), Federal Polytechnic Oko Chapter, Comrade Innocent Okeke, while congratulating the new rector on her appointment, pledged to continually partner with the management to move the institution forward.

Okeke, expressed hopes that the rector would make the entire staff and students of the polytechnic the centrepiece of her policy initiatives and actions.

“Her administration must be seen to be people-oriented and do everything within the law to be the voice of the voiceless in this institution. She must divest herself of petty politics of religion, ethnicity and gender. Also, rumour mongers and pretenders are the real enemies of any administration. We wish her tremendous success in all its ramifications”, he added.

Also the rector, , Dr. Michael Arimanwa, said was a reward of her innumerable contributions in the education sector.

“Your emergence as the rector of this great institution shows that the records of your achievements as a dogged engineer and educationist are of note”, he said.

Also speaking, a non-teaching staff member of the institution, Ifeoma Okoye, said the rector had a clear vision of the problems affecting the institution and expressed hope that her administration would be a blessing to the polytechnic.

With the work speed already demonstrated by the new rector, students of the institution have expressed optimism that the new administration would surely deliver on her vision of making the polytechnic an enviable citadel of learning in the country.

Orient Education reports that Dr. Nwafulugo, an engineer, whose appointment by president Muhammadu Buhari, took effect from February 4, has lectured for 26 years at Kaduna Polytechnic.
