Teni Apata – ‘The Entertainer’

Teni Apata - ‘The Entertainer’ - the eventual, the emergence, teni, for your case, eventual, apata

By Ifeanyi Ndukwe

Writers are prophets. Before the 2015 general elections, the drama that had followed the victory of President Buhari, the media with an eagle eye, pointed out that PDP might lose the enviable executive seat. It happened. Permit me to narrow it down to entertainment. In 2008, we predicted of a new genre of hip hop especially in local dialects. That saw of arts like Reminisce, Phyno to mention a few. When the twins, PSquare battled for unjust reasons best known to them, we predicted their breakup. What have we? Mr. P and Rude Boy on their separate ways though both still making progress.

This time, we observed and want to predict a new phenomenon that would blow and is already the rave of the moments in the music industry. Her name is Teniola who goes by the stage name, ‘the entertainer’.

She attended Memorial School in Isolo, Lagos. The school is owned by her parents. Then went to America InterContinental University in Atlanta, where she studied Business Administration and Marketing.

The thrilling thing about is the message imbedded in her songs. She won the awards for ‘Rookie of the Year awards’’ beating other nominees at the Headies 2018 edition. And guess what? She is sister to RnB singer, Niniola. Funny, though she said she has no intention to release an album for the year but we are predicting that the remaining parts of this year 2019 will experience a new act from a female singer loaded with inspirational messages in her songs. Wonderfully, she sings in her local dialect. Some persons think studying overseas warrants total abstention from one’s mother’s tongue. But not for our music stars; they have an uncanny way to appeal to the audience.

In the song video,’Fargin’. She sends a message to fellow girls on the need to maintain their dignity as women. Her songs are replete with very inspiring messages. The pretty tomboy is an experienced instrumentalist, having played drums for top dignitaries in events hosting most Lagos state governors.

With Yemi Alade being quiet and Cynthia Morgan’s screen absence, I’m sure music lovers are folding their hands waiting for a new uprising to clap it; and Teni meets the qualities. She is music personified: instrumentalist, singer, songwriter and actor. In short, she is an ensemble of arts.

You would agree with me that the yuletide period saw music DJs, radio houses and handy gadgets playing songs by the delectable artists. The singles like, ‘Your Case’ has seized the moment.

‘I slap police o o, I go to war o o

Enter water for your case o o, I punch the judge for your case o o

This is just the beginning and we should look forward to the new queen of the Nigerian entertainment industry.

Wherever, Teni may be at the moment and if at the progress and fame begins, do remember that Orient Entertainment saw it first and believed it. Thank you.
