The Nigerian Society has drawn the attention of leaders and latent global organisations on to embark on rapid response to disaster emergencies and funding of .

The chairman of the in state, Prof. Peter Emeka Katchy, made the call in his address on the occasion of the commemoration of the 2019 World Cross Day on Wednesday, May 8, in Awka.

Katchy, a gold medallist, while speaking on the theme of the 2019 World Day, “Love for Humanity,” said  rapid response to disaster emergencies and funding of are very imperative to creating enabling environment in order to achieve global security and safety, which he said, are central to world economic and social order.

“This year, the International Committee of and Red Crescent and the International Federation of are strategically appraising and evaluating the vantage roles of humanitarian love and the need for greater emphasis on volunteers’ joint efforts as the major executors for service to humanity.

“Every emanating disaster situation, preparedness for disaster, prevention of disaster, mitigation and rapid response to emergency situations are all anchored and piloted by volunteers. Therefore, Red Cross is focussing and highlighting on concerted efforts of humanitarians all over the world.

“This is basically to draw the attention of leaders and latent organisations on to embark on rapid response to disaster emergencies and funding of humanitarian operations,” he said.

While commending the Grand Patron and Mother- General of the Red Cross, state, Governor Willie Obiano and wife, Ebelechukwu, respectively, for their humanitarian dispositions towards residents of Anambra state, and in fighting for the welfare of the downtrodden, Katchy solicited for their continued assistance and support, and that of other humanitarian organisations to enable the in the state respond very vigorously and actively towards emergency situations.

Earlier, former chairman of Red Cross, south east zone, Hon. Justice Paul Obidigwe, Rtd, who was present at the occasion, noted that the major aim and objective of the Red Cross is to assist vulnerable people through swift response to emergencies.
