Suspected assassins, on Sunday, attacked Oke family at Umuogodoakpu community, Ngbo, in Ohaukwu local government area of Ebonyi state, slaughtering two children, aged seven and four and severely injured another.
Orient Daily learnt that the attackers took the family unaware when they arrive their home, as they snatched and butchered Chidiebere Oke, a 4 -year -old boy, amid pleading from helpless mother, before preceding to machete another, Chisom Oke, a seven-year-old girl. The assailants also proceeded to attack Chinonso Oke, the eldest child, who survived with serious injuries.
The Ebonyi state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Loveth Odah, who confirmed the incident, told Orient Daily that Mrs Oke was frying garri in her compound when two men attacked the family, killing two of her children.
A source, Emmanuel Onwe, claimed that the yet-to-be identified assassins invaded the home of the victims’ parent with the intention to wipe out the family, but ended up attacking their children; a development that culminated into the death of two of the children, while the surviving son was lying critically in the hospital.
“The mother of the children was with her kids when the unidentified persons came and snatched the little child from the mother. The woman was shouting, calling for help, but nobody could help her. The killer succeeded in butchering one of the children, and then proceeded to butcher others. These two are already dead and deposited in the mortuary, while the one that is the eldest is lying critically in the hospital.”
According to him, “their father is in Onitsha in Anambra state, but I learnt that he had left Onitsha to the village.”
This paper gathered that following an official report by the victim’s neighbor, police operatives from Ohaukwu Divisional Police Station swung into action and nabbed two suspects in connection with the crime.
