The head of department, HoD of mass communication in Cross River University of Technology, CRUTECH, Dr (Mrs.) Obonganwan Ekpenyong Edim, slumped and died on Sunday night before she could be rushed to hospital.
Close family sources said she was promoted to HoD just two months ago and that there was no sign that the lecturer was physically sick before her sudden demise. Before her elevation, she was teaching intermediate French in the university
It was learnt that Dr. Edim lost her husband, Chief Ekpenyong Edim, late last year. He was also a lecturer in the Department of Urban Planning in the same university, and a onetime chairman of Calabar Urban Development Authority (CUDA).
of her students who expressed grief over the demise described her as a virtuous woman and someone who was very committed to her teaching job.
Some students seemed to have suspected foul play in Dr. Edim’s death and, therefore, cursed those they felt masterminded the departure of the lecturer to the great beyond. “And people will still think killing someone gives you an edge ahead not knowing you are helping the person to rest early. Mass communication mourns; I mourn because I can’t believe she won’t be on the cover of my
