Ifeanyi Ubah disowns Nzuko Umunna, says ‘I’m only assisting’

Nigeria to save N3 trn from local content usage - Onu

By Sunday Agbo

Oil mogul and businessman, Chief Ifeanyi Patrick Uba, has absolved himself of any blame in the late notification of the South East governors for the recent meeting of the controversial ‘Nzuko Umunna Initiative’.

Uba, who is the chairman of the Local Organising Committee, while reacting to Governor David Umahi’s rejection of the initiative, said that he was not a leader of the group but was only assisting members to reach out to relevant stakeholders because members of the organisation are not conversant with the terrain.

“I am not a leader of Nzuko Umunna. The Nzuko Umunna is stronger outside Nigeria. It is a team of professionals from America, Asia and London. These young people came together to form this. The point is that the man in America may not know how to approach you and may not know how to reach you. So, I see myself as the chairman of the local organising committee, my own is to call you.

“You know what it took me to get in touch with you. I have to call the governors. Personally, I was in Abia State. I went to see Rochas in his hometown and went to see the governor of Anambra State. We went to see the governor of Enugu State, he also complained he was not carried along. Somebody must bridge the gap sir.  You are very right sir, but I think we do not need to know who is who in this platform”, he noted.

Governor Umahi had earlier voiced his objection to the Nzuko Umunna Initiative, declaring: “Our position is not debatable; We have taken our position; it is for you to take correction when next you are organising the programme. We are a brother state like others so treat us as you treat others.

“There is no explanation that will change our position. It is one of the things we are determined as a state to do, that any Ebonyi man any day will stand up with no complex but to compete with others. So, it is not something we can wish away”, Umahi stated.
