2019: Okorocha wants to succeed himself—Ihedioha

By Damian Duruiheoma, Owerri

Former deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha, has accused Imo state Governor, Rochas Okorocha, of plotting to perpetuate himself in office.

Ihedioha, who contested the 2015 governorship election on the platform of the PDP and scheming to contest again in 2019 claimed that “all Okorocha wants is to secure a ‘third term bid’ through proxy, by ensuring that he plants a stooge who will always do his bidding against the wishes of the people of the state”.

The ex-deputy speaker made the declaration during the inaugural ceremony of his campaign structure, Ihedioha Youth Movement, Ahiazu Mbaise chapter.

He called on Imo youths to be wary and resist the antics of the Okorocha administration to perpetually continue what he described as the “worst type of maladministration” in the state, adding that all hands must be on deck to stop him.

Ihedioha, however, commended the youth movement for their tenacity and foresight in rooting for his emergence, maintaining that among those clamouring to succeed the current administration in the state, he stood a better chance, having garnered the needed experience as the former number six citizen of the country.

While applauding the selfless philosophy of the youth group, the former deputy speaker, warned them against falling prey to those whom he described as ‘saboteurs’, adding that such people have been planted by the government of the day to truncate his ambition of taking Imo to the promised land.

Earlier, the Ahiazu Mbaise chapter Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Nze Rich Iwu, identified the youths as the strongest electoral force through which the party can garner victory at all levels, while calling on them to eschew evil machinations and show abiding commitment to the Ihedioha project to guarantee their future.

In his speech, the Ahiazu Mbaise Coordinator of the movement, Mr. Columbus Akalonu, stated that the powerful zeal of the youths from the area, as a masses movement, has been positively channelled towards the actualisation of the Ihedioha project and put an end to what he described as the “deadly governance and democratic dictatorship in the state”.

He maintained that the youths in the area have reaffirmed their total commitment to key into the visions and missions of Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha for a better Imo state, adding that the readiness of his exco-led members to achieve this success cannot be thwarted.
