At least two and a member of the indigenous people of biafra (IPOB) were reportedly killed on Friday during a between biafra agitators and operatives of the Nigerian police force, Nnewi division, Anambra state at the popular Market.

Orient Daily gathered that the IPOB members were at Nnewi to drive home their stance of no referendum, no 2019 election when the erupted. The members numbering over 2000 stormed the market, with members waving the Biafran flag, and chanting ‘no referendum, no election’.

It was gathered that the members, were moving round, telling Igbo people in the market not to participate in the 2019 general elections unless the federal government heed their demand and conduct referendum.

Problems ensued when police officers arrived the scene in three hilux vans and tried to stop IPOB activities, the IPOB members allegedly pounced on the police officers, “destroyed their vans and left two officers in the pool of their blood”.

This caused an abrupt closure of the market as traders were seen scampering for safety.

As at the time of filing this report, soldiers have taken over the town.

The state police public relations officer, PPRO, Mr Haruna Mohammed have not reacted to the development as at press time.
