rying out wonderful recipes this season is what makes the yuletide celebration colourful especially when it is a season when a lot of food is expected to be consumed then the smoothie comes to mind. In the light of this, my recipe for our bumper edition will dwell on the ingredients for making a smoothie drink and the steps to make it. This is a combination of 5 very nutritional and healthy fruits; I nicknamed ‘power 5 potency drink’: soursop, banana, pineapple, watermelon and orange. The fruit drink base is the soursop.
Soursop is the fruit of Annona muricata, a broadleaf, flowering and an evergreen tree. It is widely propagated in Nigeria. The health benefits of this wonder fruit includes suppressing cancer, supporting eye health, relieving inflammation, managing diabetes, promoting health of stomach and digestive tract, kills intestinal parasites, relieving pain, reducing stress load, relieving respiratory tract ailments, promoting liver health and boosting immunity.
Banana is loaded with high fibre content, both soluble and insoluble. It is an instant energy booster and it is one fruit that is commonly available. This fruit is essential as it is good for the heart, ease digestion, serves as powerhouse of nutrients, a high source of potassium, it regulates blood pressure and helps fight anemia.
This tropical fruit is rich in vitamins, enzymes and antioxidants. They may help boost the immune system, build strong bones and aid indigestion. Also, despite their sweetness, pineapples are low in calories.
The health benefits of watermelon include prevention of kidney disorders, high blood pressure, cancer diabetes, heart diseases, heat stroke, prevents macular degeneration and impotence.
This citrus fruit is high in vitamin C, boosts immune system, prevents skin damage, keeps blood pressure under check, lowers cholesterol and controls blood sugar level.
