2017 yuletide recorded 90% accident-free—NEMA

The National Emergency Management Agency () has disclosed that the 2017 was 90 per cent accident free just its Director General, Engr Maihaja Mustapha, reiterated his readiness to partner with various response agencies in disaster management.

A top of the agency and Coordinator Imo/Abia operations, Mr. Evans Ugoh, disclosed this to newsmen in , while recounting the success recorded by the agency during the 2017 .

He said the agency was able to achieve the fit through its Operation Eagle Eye and the efforts of various response agencies, which ensured that it covered identified flash point routes in Imo/Abia, including Owerri/Aba road, Owerri Onitsha road, Owerri/Umuahia road, Owerri/Okigwe road, among others.

Ugoh said the only notable accident during the period in Imo/Abia was the multiple car crash along Owerri/Aba road, adding that the military and FRSC officials were on ground to rescue the victims.

He commended various response agencies for partnering with to tackle road challenges, especially during the Christmas/New- celebration.

He assured of the agency’s willingness to strengthen inter-agency relationship with various stakeholders in tackling road challenges, saying that the agency will continue to focus on activities that will guarantee public safety and reduction of emergencies.
