The Independent National Electoral Commission () says it will the uncollected Permanent Voter Cards () burnt by unknown persons who broke into its office in South Local Government Area of Abia state last weekend.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Joseph Iloh who confirmed the development to newsmen in Umuahia said there had been controversies over the location of the office before the fire.

According to him, “There had been agitation for our movement to Umuika, where we rented an office, some members of the Omoba community where we reside our office insisted that we should not move. It is very clear that we cannot conduct an election in a single office room apartment the Local Government Chairman then gave to us.

He further disclosed that the commission has authentic list of registered voters at its headquarters in Umuahia and will be reprinting the burnt . “We’re working on the report to ascertain the exact number of that were burnt, so that we will do a memo to our headquarters for a and will be reissued before this general election.

He announced further security measures to ensure free and fair election by deploying more security personnel in the area.
