The leadership of Ohaneze Ndigbo youth council worldwide and a coalition of Igbo groups namely southeast women professionals, world Igbo youth congress and Igbo students movement yesterday said that southeast politicians lacked the clout to deliver both president Muhammadu Buhari and Akitu Abubakar.
A statement by the group in Abakaliki signed by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro,President General Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide,Comrade Obinna Achionye Deputy President
Ohanaeze Youth and two others, said they would resist all forms of vote buying in the region.
According to the statement, Ohanaeze youths pulled out from the Igbo day held yesterday at Owerri in Imo State, describing it as a bad precedent for holding Igbo day apart from September 29th as December 18th is not a day set aside for Igbo day.
He said what played out during the award ceremony to past and present leaders of the country in Imo state was a charade, especially the award to Kano state governor Abdullahi Ganduje was a charade.
“But the award to governor Ganduje is the height of immoralities in Igbo land as the spirit of the beheaded Mrs Bridget from Imo state killed in 2016 in Kano for alleged blasphemy will continue to haunt governor Ganduje and the organizers of the award to him.
“Irrespective of the bribery allegation trending online against Kano state governor Ganduje, we disassociate our groups from this mockery and insult to Igbo nation,as those who are behind the so called award to governor Ganduje will adequately be sanctioned accordingly. Those who misled Ohanaeze leadership into this charade will be punished.
“According to Ohanaeze constitution,Igbo day celebration holds September 29th annually. So what is going on in Owerri is not Igbo day,but Imo state day with the intention of deceiving Ndigbo and Nigerians, the apex decision making organ in Ohaneze which is the ‘imeobi’ never approved the congregation of people meeting in Owerri
“On this note,Ohanaeze youths had pull out from the Owerri event today and warn against setting a bad precedent for holding Igbo day apart from September 29th as December 18th is not a day set aside for Igbo day and Ohanaeze was deceived, and any decision taken is not binding on Ndigbo.
“We call on Igbo youths and agitators to rise up and defend the traditions, values and culture of our people,as we will fight against those whose interests are to sell Igbo votes to the highest bidder especially in presidential election.
“Southeast Politicians are deceiving both PDP presidential candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and President Buhari on Igbo support. All these politicians had lost grip of southeast since they failed in 2015 to deliver Jonathan. Southeast is the hands of Igbo youth leadership and Biafra agitators who had been raped of dividends of Democracy .We will resist vote buying in the southeast”, he reiterated.
